Vivo has manufactured the mobile phone by adding an ultrasonic sensor right underneath the display. This technology reads any physical contact that takes place with the display to unlock the smartphone.
Vivo finally took the centre-stage at the continuing Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018 in Las Vegas to present the world its first ever smartphone that uses an under-display fingerprint sensor. Although Samsung and Apple are still said to be experimenting with this kind of technology, Vivo has gone ahead to be the first ever company to demonstrate how an in-display fingerprint sensing will literally work on its handset. The China-based Shenzhen manufacturer added that the mobile is all set to abide its mass production. Consequently, the company will start shipping the device in the early half of 2018. The pricing and various other details of the cell phone haven’t been revealed yet.
This nameless smartphone will have a full-screen display along with a fingerprint sensor just underneath it. It appears that the sensor doesn’t work any differently than any other fingerprint sensors, which are also capable of registering a new fingerprint to unlock the phone. Still, this functionality isn’t as quick as the regular fingerprint sensor. However, it is expected that it might improve over time.
The company that manufactures touchscreen programs, Synaptics, had recently made an announcement about a fingerprint sensor, which can be fixed in a phone’s display. Vivo has apparently joined hands with Synaptics for adding a high-tech fingerprint sensing program to its handset. According to reports, Vivo has also embedded the mobile with an ultrasonic sensor right underneath the display to read any physical contact for unlocking the device. The signals produce a 3D map of the fingerprint, which first read and then stores the data.
Furthermore, a brand new Vivo X20Plus UD model was also spotted by a popular website on China’s 3C certification website. This device is said to sport the novel under-display fingerprint sensor. The UD present in the Vivo X20Plus UD predicts that there is a possibility of an under-display on the device. The smartphone to will carry a model number of BK1124. Moreover, the specifications and features of this handset are pretty close to the Vivo X20 Plus, which was unveiled some time ago.
