Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro Review

Let me bring you the Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro review and the highlighting feature of the phone is its dual front camera. In current mobile market trend, Asus has launched the phone with right features to compete with smartphones like Vivo V7+. Asus has tried to work around a bit differently with its dual front camera features which might help Asus differentiate it with the world. But do you think that Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro manages to fulfil our expectation? Let’s check it out on our Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro review.

Design

The very first thing I liked about the phone design is the metal body which makes us feel very good while handling the phone in the palm. The phone weighs 145 grams which is very lite. We have seen many smartphones coming with the bezel-less display but Asus didn’t bother to build Zenfone 4 selfie pro with bezel-less display. Unlike OnePlus 3, Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro doesn’t slip from hand and measures just 6.85mm.

Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro is designed with volume buttons and the powered button is placed on right side of the phone. While testing the phone I found it quite difficult to reach out my finger to the volume button and press it. With 5.5-inch full-HD AMOLED display, I found very good colour saturation but I found difficulties in viewing when the display was brought in contact with sunlight. The edges at the corner of the body and gold border lining at the home button makes the phone look more appealing.

More about the display to talk is that the phone comes with Gorilla Glass Protection and it has a 2.5D contour. At the bottom of the phone, we can see 3.5mm jack with micro-USB charging slot and speakers. The phone supports hybrid dual-SIM slot and it can be expandable up to 2TB via microSD card. In our process of Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro review, we found the design very allegiant and stylist at the price the phone is offered.

Specification & Software

Asus Zenfone 4 selfie pro is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC and runs on ZenUI 4.0 which is based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. The device comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage which is a trend to all upcoming smartphones. Other specification includes Bluetooth 4.2, GLONASS, single-band Wi-Fi b/g/n, and USB-OTG. In our Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro review, we tested it with AnTuTu benchmark where it scored 65621 and with GeekBench, it scored 4344 for the multi-core processor.

Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro operates on ZenUI 4.0 which is somewhat similar to its earlier version. We found out some similar features like, long-press on the home screen pops out the option to change the theme and other options, swiping right opens up Google Now and long press on home button loads Google Assistant. Split screen feature is something which multi-tasker needs the most and so Zenfone 4 also supports Nougat split screen feature which lets you use two apps at the same time. Nowadays most of the phone doesn’t come with FM feature, Zenfone 4 comes with FM but only via the notification bar.

Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro

With ZenUI, Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro lets you set up SOS mode where you can share your location with your family or friends just by 3 consecutive clicks on the power button. The intended recipients will receive an SMS with Google maps links. Selfie Master is a launcher which lets you jump to the front camera for stills or video, enter the BeautyLive mode, or create a collage or slideshow, which was the highlight feature of the ZenFone Live. Parallel App is a feature which is available in Android Oreo, a similar feature named Twin App is available in Zenfone 4 which lets you use same with two different accounts. Other than this app, Zenfone 4 selfie pro also has mobile manager app which helps you manage junk files, data usage, etc.

Performance & Battery

Looking at the specs of Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro, there isn’t much doubt about its performance. The phone performed well in our various test including playing large size games and continuously using playing videos for a long time. The metal body did get heat up quickly while using the camera for a long time. Most games run smoothly and we didn’t find any issues with call quality. The fingerprint sensor is placed on the home button and is pretty quick to unlock the smartphone, other than unlocking the phone it functions to answer incoming calls.

Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro - Modern Combat

Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro handles multimedia playback too and also supports high-resolution audio (192kHz/24-bit) files. The audio output & quality is good and it gives an alert if the audio is very high or beyond systems threshold. Asus has its AudioWizard software, which additionally helps in enhancements like DTS Headphone: X and virtual surround sound for headphones.

In our Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro review, we found its performance up to mark without any lagging issues expect that the phone gets heat up. The Zenfone 4 is packed with 3000mAh battery which lasts for 10 hours in the review. It takes around 2 hours to charge the phone fully and with regular use the battery last for a day.

Camera

The phones most famous feature is its dual front camera so let me give you a clear picture of how its front and back camera works and how quality pictures are clicked. Let’s talk about the dual front camera, the selling point of Asus Zenfone 4 selfie pro comes with ‘DuoPixel’ along with the 24-megapixel resolution. The main front sensor is a 12-megapixel Sony IMX362 sensor and has a f/1.8 aperture. The 24-megapixel actually gets into working only when you switch to DuoPixel mode from the camera settings.

Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro

In our Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro review, we found that the camera didn’t give a much better result. In DouPixel mode, the bright area of the images are captured quite badly in daylight shots and details of faces are generally good. The pixel and colour of the image are average and low-light can be considered good but not great. Zenfone 4 second front sensor holds the 120-degree field of group selfies view but that too doesn’t give a favourable result because of its narrower aperture and regular sized pixels lead.

The rear 16-megapixel camera which is placed at the back of the phone works well but fails in the low light area. It captures noise-free images in daylight area but doesn’t do a good job a low-light area. Similarly, focusing is quick in daylight view but slows down in low-light view. The biggest feature I found is 4K recording using any of the cameras. 4K recording works well but we didn’t find full-HD video quality that great. There’s a portrait mode for the front and rear sensors, which works simply well. The camera app is fairly straightforward, giving you options to switch between the main and wide-angle front sensors, and a variety of shooting modes like Pro, Super Resolution, Panorama, slow motion, timelapse, etc.

Verdict

In our Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro review, we came to a conclusion that Zenfone 4 comes with high-end features at the price range. We didn’t find the camera to be very great as the marketing material was all about the camera. Apart from the camera, we found all other features to be quite great to the price range. ZenUI 4 looks good but we didn’t find much change in it.

Honor 7x Review – The budget premium design phone

Honor 7X Review

The Honor 7x is the latest budget smartphone to match your requirements. The smartphone comes with 18:9 aspect ratio screen. The Honor 7X is built with many features and is budget friendly enough for more people to buy it. But does all these features and price makes the Honor 7x competitive enough on the price segment? To find out the answer just check out the Honor 7X review here.

Honor 7x Display

Honor 7X Design

The Honor 7X is designed with metal unibody which makes premium look and feel of the smartphone. With curves on the edges of the phone and dual rear camera with 16MP+2MP placed at the back of the phone, the smartphone looks pretty good at a glance. Fingerprint sensor is also placed at the back of the smartphone which makes it very easy for the users to unlock the phone. The fingerprint sensor is fast to read the finger touch and quickly unlock the phone. Honor 7X comes with 8MP front selfie camera which is placed at the top of the phone. The display size is 5.93-inch with Full-HD and thin borders on the sides of the phone and quite thick border at the bottom and top of the phone.

The loudspeaker, 3.5mm headphones socket, micro-USB port and primary microphone is placed at the bottom of the phone. The power button and the volume buttons are placed at the right side of the phone which we found bit difficult to reach out our thumb to the volume button. The Honor 7X measures a 7.6mm in thickness and weighs 165 grams which feels right in the palm.

Honor 7X specifications, Features & Software

The Honor 7X is fitted with 4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB internal storage which is quite enough for the trend in the smartphone market. It can also be extended to 256GB via microSD in the hybrid dual-SIM slot. Honor 7X runs on Android Nougat 7.0 which takes down the interest towards the phone because the most of the phones are already getting Android Oreo update. In case of OS, Huawei could have done better for Honor 7X. Just like other Huawei smartphones, Honor 7X is also powered by Huawei-made processor and is packed with HiSilicon Kirin 659 SoC.

honor 7x edges

Honor 7X, just like other Huawei phones runs on Huawei’s custom Emotional UI skin (EMUI 5.1) on top of Android Nougat. The phones gives you an option to choose between layouts with or without app drawer with theme support for customization. Its display is full-HD with 2.5D curved glass and there is no details about the type of protection. The screen is not tough enough to handle a minor scratch. While reviewing Honor 7X we by mistakenly got a minor scratch on the device so use Honor 7X with proper protection. The metal unibody also lose the color while we were reviewing the device. With aspect ratio of 18:9, you can force the app to run on full screen mode. The Honor 7X also comes with apps called HiCare, HiGames, Hi Honor and Honor Community. You get demo versions of Spider-Man: Ultimate Power, Asphalt Nitro, Bubble Bash 3, Modern Combat 4 Zero Hour, and Danger Dash preinstalled, but you can get rid of them to free up space.

Honor 7X Performance & Battery Life

In the Honor 7X review process, we tested the device with various test cases and we found it performing well enough to the price segment it comes with. While playing high-end games we didn’t find any lagging issues and performance was never degraded. The graphics was always upto mark and the visual always came out to its best. Watching movies or videos on 18:9 aspect ratio and Full-HD display was pretty good experience in full screen mode.

Honor 7x antutu score

We notice something in the Honor 7X review process is that the device would get warm while playing games for long and battery would remarkably drain. In our test, we found that the phone lasted only for around 8 hours but for medium use it last for at least a day. The Honor 7X is packed with 3,340mAh battery with few battery saving tweaks which we shouldn’t use all the time. Huawei could have given a more powerful battery to Honor 7X in the same price segment which could have helped the phone last for longer while playing games and watching HD videos.

Honor 7X Camera

The camera of Honor 7X is good enough to capture good pictures but on terms of picture quality it misses out some details of the pictures. Honor 7X camera is easy to use and it comes with different modes to use. The phone comes modes like wide aperture, moving picture, portrait mode and pro mode. Photos taken from Honor 7X looks good but after zooming the picture we notice that Honor 7X misses out on few of the details. The wide aperture mode gives you better depth of field by digitally adding blur based on the aperture value you select.

Honor 7x camera
Honor 7x camera click Honor 7x color correction Honor 7x night mode

In our Honor 7X review process, we also noticed that the camera also has some color correction issues. We took a snap of Red color flower but in the picture it shows dark pink color flower, this was disappointing about the camera. The phone takes shots in auto mode but then takes time to sharpen the output which gives a noiseless result but at a cost of over all detail. Shooting at night mode needs a steady hand to capture great picture. The device is capable of recording video at 1080p from primary camera and 720p using selfie camera.

Verdict

In our overall Honor 7X review process, we came to a conclusion that the phone is really good at its price segment. And the device gives a big display with 18:9 aspect ratio. With powerful hardware and quite good camera quality, the device is good to go with. The design of Honor 7X gives the phone a premium look and feel which will temp you to buy the phone. Overall it’s a pretty good phone to go with.

OnePlus 5T Review – Its all about the screen size

oneplus 5t review

Just like OnePlus 3T, we nearly got the same body finishing like OnePlus 3 but with different specs which includes a processor, RAM and battery life. This is year was full of bezel-less display and screen size and so OnePlus also launched OnePlus 5T soon after the launch of OnePlus 5 approximately 5 months after launch of OnePlus 5. OnePlus has come up with a taller screen which is the current trend in the mobile market. 5T launch sounds great but also disappoints those who have recently brought OnePlus 5. Let’s find out the details of the smartphone in the OnePlus 5T review.

Design

The new OnePlus 5T is somewhat similar to its forerunner OnePlus 5 in screen size. OnePlus 5T comes with 6-inch screen size, which covers a larger area of the display. Because of the huge screen size, the company had placed the fingerprint sensor on the back of the phone which is quite similar to brands smartphones.

With 18:9 aspect ratio, you need to start playing a video or a full-screen mode accessing app to enjoy the bezel-less display feel. Since the display occupying much of the screen, the camera is slightly moved a bit on top of the bezel. The edges of the device are rounded as opposed to the sharper angles housing the OnePlus 5 camera.

OnePlus 5T Design

The dual-rear camera is placed on the back of the device with a fingerprint sensor, which gives the device a premium look and feels. OnePlus has replaced the 1.6x optical telephoto lens with a 1x 20 MP shooter that uses groups of four pixels to capture more light and apparently do better in low light circumstances.

The device body is almost same as its forerunner OnePlus 5 and it uses the same aluminum alloy shell and also same antenna lines as the 5 only difference we found is the body is just a bit bigger. The power button and volume buttons are placed exactly same as that of OnePlus 5 and the alert slider is also placed exactly as of OnePlus 5.

The device is packed with 3300 mAh battery just like OnePlus 5 and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon and 6GB & 8GB RAM. In our OnePlus 5T review process, we have slightly found a difference between the design of 5 and 5T but then we agree that OnePlus 5T still the smartphone you need to go for.

Display

One reason to buy OnePlus 5T over OnePlus 5 is its display. The OnePlus 5T is using 1080p AMOLED panel from Samsung with a Diamond Pentile arrangement and has 6-inch long screen size. Though some features of 5T are similar 5, there are features which yet updated to align with the updated OxygenOS look. The ambient display gives you an easy readout of any notification that pops up and is quite easy on the eyes to read it out.

One of the best features of OnePlus 5T is reading mode which is also available in OnePlus 5. we get a black and white display but with a color temperature balancing, which increases the comfortability in reading.

oneplus 5t display

OnePlus 5T doesn’t just give you default mode on display, it also provides you with a variety of option to the adjust the display as per liking. You can use the sRGB mode to get a more color-accurate experience or use the color temperature sliders to find a warmth that works for you. It’s this kind of customization that makes us love OnePlus devices, along with the ultra-customizable but still very simplistic Oxygen OS.

During the OnePlus 5T review process, we found the display really great to watch videos and play games because of its taller screen size.

Software & Hardware Performance

Even 6 months after the launch of OnePlus 5, 5T comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 6/8GB RAM and 64/128GB of internal storage and these are still top of the line components. In our OnePlus 5T review process we never found any slow down in the performance even while playing very high-end games. While using multiple apps at the same time, didn’t cause any performance issue in switching between apps or launching new apps. The lightweight nature of OxygenOS, abundant RAM and Snapdragon 835 probably the reason behind the great performance of the phone.

We were quite worried about the battery performance of the device as it is packed with 3300 mAh. But, the result turns out to make us happy as the battery lasted for more than 8 hours even after being continuously used to test. The phone still comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack which is a really great news and the built-in speakers are really great to listen to music. But there is no official IP certificate, so you need to be careful while listening to music on 5T near pool or sink.

OnePlus 5T Display

The OnePlus 5T also comes with OxygenOS just like OnePlus 5, the UI remains the same with a few changes. The phone runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat and is upgradable to Android 8.0 Oreo. The best part of OxygenOS is that it is more like Stock Android with few of the additional features to enhance the experience. The only “bloatware” present on the device is the OnePlus Community app which can be uninstalled.

One of the security features which needs to be discussed is Facial Unlock. Facial Unlock is present in many of the android phones but more exposed in OnePlus 5T. During our OnePlus 5T review process, we found the facial unlock feature to be working great and quickly unlocks the phone. OnePlus 5T also comes with parallel apps feature which is a most needed feature for few, it helps you to log in with a different account in the same app, for example WhatsApp, Instagram, Snapchat, etc.

Camera

OnePlus has been known very much for its camera quality since OnePlus 3 and I have been using OnePlus since June 2016. I have always loved the pictures that are captured from OnePlus devices and so does the trend goes on. In OnePlus 5T favor a 20 MP 1x camera that uses groups of four pixels to perform better in low light.

OnePlus 5T Camera

With the Bokeh effect, the camera captures a great picture with blurred background and we found that the subject is focused enough to give a good output. The camera performed well in the bright daytime and we could find best results but couldn’t perform well in the low light area. Compare to other brands, like Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, the phone doesn’t perform well based on the quality. The secondary rear camera only works great only in good light area and phone analyses when to use it.

The front camera appropriately captures good pictures and gives a quality output which you can share it on social media. Video recording goes up to 4K at 30fps, 1080p at 60fps, or 720p slow motion at 120fps. This is slightly disappointing, as other phones on the market can capture better slow-mo video. However, the video is still smooth and crisp, and the quality should be adequate for most people.

Verdict

In our OnePlus 5T review, we came out to a conclusion that 5T is slightly better than 5. We started the review with its display and we are glad that out of the all features of OnePlus 5T, its display turned out to be the best with AMOLED screen. In our review, we figured out that if you already own OnePlus 5 then you need to buy OnePlus 5T but if you are planning to buy a new smartphone in this price range then we would suggest you go for OnePlus 5T.
