Salman Khan plans to get into mobile industry by soon launching a smartphone named BeingSmart. The actor has registered the trademark “BeingSmart” and the smartphone will be aimed at the entry and mid-market segment, a report by Economic Times says. As the smartphone is entry level and mid-market segment, the cost of the smartphone will be INR 20,000. Sources also stated that Khan has already selected a chinese plant that will manufacture the smartphone. The smartphone will be running on Android.
According to report, the actor is building a operational management team which be directed by someone who has worked at Samsung or Mircomax. Salman Khan thought of this idea two years ago, based on reports.
The “BeingSmart” devices will be initially sold online and later will be available to retailers and also in Being Human Stores. “BeingSmart will be positioned against the Chinese smartphone brigade — Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi — at a time domestic handset makers such as Micromax and Intex are facing tremendous competition,” said one of those cited above. “And, like the Being Human apparel line, proceeds from the profit will be ploughed back into charity and social work that Salman Khan does with his Being Human Foundation.”
Salman Khan joins his peer Shah Rukh Khan in branching into businesses other than film production, harnessing their popularity to establish revenue streams in industries as diverse as entertainment, competitive sport, endorsements and branded clothing.
