NASA astronomers have discovered 7 new Earth Like planets orbiting a star called TRAPPIST-1. The most important and noticeable thing about this Earth Like planets is there are three planets which are habitable. The possibility is that there could be water available on any of three planets which are rocky surface planets.
Thomas Zurbuchen is an associate administrator of the Science Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters. Thomas Zurbuchen stated in a news conference “The discovery gives us a hint that finding a second Earth is not just a matter of if, but when”. The biggest question of all time: Is there a life on other planets, Zurbuchen also stated it as “major step forward”.
Michael Gillon, astronomer at the University of Liege in Belgium also gave his input during the press conference. “The discovery is very promising for the search for life beyond our solar system”. Gollin also added that “If you were on the surface of one of these planets, you would have a wonderful view [of] the other planets”. They are could be somewhat similar to small lighting dots in sky which are visible from our Earth, like Venus.
NASA also added that this is a record breaking discovery for the Space Agency. Also so many earth orbiting around is first time discovered in the history of space agency. Thousands of planets already been discovered by the scientist.
The planets which are in habitable zone also knowns as Goldilocks Zone, are called as TRAPPIST-1 e, f and g. The planet which is very much exact as Earth is Exoplanet e. It also gets exact amount star light which our planet gets.
The size of this planets were discovered using NASA’s Spitzer data and developed first estimates of the masses of six of them. This planets are called as Exoplanets because they are located outside our Solar System.
Planets orbiting around TRAPPIST-1 are likely to be rocky planets based on their densities. It is not sure if water exist on this planets but also there is a possibility that there could be water. Scientist needs more observation to discover the size of the 7th planets and it is expected to be an icy “snowbal-likel” world.
TRAPPIST-1 star is ultra cool dwarf as compared to our sun and is so cool that liquid water could resist on planets orbiting very close to it. This seven planets are very much closer to TRAPPIST-1 star as compared to Mercury to our Sun. The planets are close enough that if a person standing on the planet’s surface, they could possibly see clouds of nearest planets. They could also see geological features of the other nearest planets.
